Goodlatte Votes NO on Ending Shutdown

Bob Says "Keep Government Shut Down and Stop Paying Bills"

Bob Goodlatte represents his own and the tea parties interest in the Congress.     We need someone who will work for the working people of the 6th District.     What we don't need is a radical like Bob.

Push came to shove and the government had been shut down for 16 days.    Now it was on the edge of defaulting on its bills and incurring added expense on monies it had to borrow.

One tenth of one per cent rise in rate on the national debt would cost taxpayers 15 Billion dollars.    A half of a per cent rise would cost taxpayers 75 Billion.     This was a serious moment requiring partisan fighters and fools to unite for the good of the country.

Bob Goodlatt failed the test but he wasn't alone, Robert Hurt from the 5th district failed also.     Two thirds of the republican party failed.     These folks knew that a default would drive up the cost of credit sky high and send the country into a tailspin and send us back into recession.

The elected representatives would have to come together and do the things that were best for the country and her people.     The two republican tea party Bobs  shouted dam the torpedoes and cast their NO votes.    Digging a deeper hole, inflicting more pain and chasing their fools errand.

Over the past 16 days the country had been put on debt watch by rating agencies and  900,000  jobs had been lost and it had cost the taxpayers 24 Billion dollars.    Bob Goodlatte, our elected congressman in the 6th District, stepped to the plate and struck out.

Bob voted for default, for shutting the government long term by destroying our standing in the world and running up our cost of borrowing money.     Goodlatte and his tea party wolf pack demonstrated that they were reckless and irresponsible.

What kind of stupid consumes the mind of Bob Goodlatte?

These foolish republicans are trying to sell the idea that the Democrats shut down the government.    Nobody is buying that republican lie.   The last time I saw this mental derangement Ariel Castro was telling a judge the three girls liked being held hostage and raped for 10 years.

Enough of the lies and spinning Bob, time for you to explain your screwy actions.   Explain why destroying the full faith and credit of the United States is less important than the thoughts You and the tea party espouse.

Goodlatte, Hurt Vote Against Bill to End Shutdown

Both houses of Congress have passed a bill to reopen the federal government and raise the debt ceiling until Feb. 7.    Virginia’s two Democratic senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, voted for the bill.    Thanks to Mark and Tim for putting the country first.

The three congressmen who represent parts of Southwest Virginia – Republicans Bob Goodlatte of Roanoke County, Morgan Griffith of Salem and Robert Hurt of Chatham,  voted against the measure in the House.

The bill still cleared the chamber by a vote of 285-144.     Thanks to the 87 Republicans who put the country first and voted with the entire Democratic block.    It is amazing that two thirds of the Republican party cannot put partisanship aside
even to save the country.

Republicans demonstrated a total lack of courage and showed that they will destroy the country to force their ideas down people's throats.

They are in charge of the House and nothing else and they use the trust the people placed in them to take the country hostage and attempted to destroy the government.    You had better thank God and your lucky stars the republicans didn't get their way.

Please, Next Election,  Throw the BUMS  Out

Republicans Dazed and Confused

The United States Congress has endorsed bipartisan legislation to end a protracted budget crisis, pulling the country from the brink of a looming debt default and signaling the end of a two-week government shutdown.

The bill, a temporary fix that will last through until the start of 2014, passed the  Senate  81-18 with a majority of both Democrats and Republicans.    It then passed the US House of Represenatives by 285 votes to 144, with a majority of Democrats bolstered by a minority of Republicans.

In brief remarks at the White House, shortly before the House was due to vote, president Barack Obama said he hoped the deal would "lift the cloud of uncertainty"  that has hung over the country in recent weeks.

"Once this agreement arrives on my desk,  I will sign it immediately,"   he said, saying he hoped the next round of spending negotiations between the parties would be more successful.

"Hopefully next time it won't be in the eleventh hour.    We've got to get out of the habit of governing by crisis."

Earlier in the day, House Republican leaders conceded defeat in their two-week battle to derail Obama's healthcare reforms on Wednesday, and said they would not block the deal, despite winning virtually no concessions.

With just hours to go until the start of the deadline set by the US Treasury for extending the debt limit, House speaker John Boehner signalled he was ready to accept a Senate-drafted peace deal that contained almost no concessions to conservatives who had driven the country the precipice of a new financial crisis.

The Republican capitulation was swift and dramatic.    "We fought the good fight, but we just didn't win," Boehner told a local TV station in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Moderate Republicans, bitter at the wounds inflicted on the party by a fight that ended in an almost complete failure to achieve any of the concessions they had sought, lashed out at their conservative colleagues.

The standoff ended just after midday when Harry Reid, the majority leader, announced the deal on the the floor of the Senate. Calling for all sides to work together, he said:    "Now is not the time for pointing the fingers of blame.    Now is the time for reconciliation."

Mitch McConnell, the Republican minority leader, acknowledged the fight was over.    "This has been a long, challenging few weeks," McConnell said.    "This is far less than many of us had hoped for, but it is far better than some had sought."

The deal, crafted by Reid and McConnell, will fund the government until 15 January and lift the debt ceiling until 7 February.    It will force both sides into a formal budget conference in an attempt to reach a longer-term deal by 13 December.

The only apparent change to the Affordable Care Act, which Republicans had targeted when they precipitated the government shutdown, involves asking the Obama administration to carry out better checks on the incomes of people registering for insurance exchanges.

A senior Republican aide told the Guardian that Boehner had agreed to allow the House to vote on the deal, which in practice means it would pass with support from Democrats and moderate Republicans.    The vote was due to take place on Wednesday evening.

At 3pm, Boehner hosted a short meeting with Republicans in the House.    Sources inside said he effectively told his colleagues they had lost the fight, before he was given a tepid applause.

Several congressman leaving the meeting conceded that hardline Republican tactics, which forced a two-week government shutdown and took the government to the brink of an economic crisis, had left them empty-handed.

The White House welcomed the Senate deal but cautioned that the battle would not be finally over until House lawmakers voted in favour of it.    "The president applauds leader Reid and minority leader McConnell for working together to forge this compromise and encourages the Congress to act swiftly to end this shutdown and protect the full faith and credit of the United States of America,"  said Obama's chief spokesman, Jay Carney.

The White House also hinted that Obama may use the defeat of conservatives in Congress as a way to push ahead with other administration priorities such as immigration reform, that were previously blocked from coming to the floor of the House of Representatives.

"The president believes that one of the consequences of these manufactured crises is that time is taken away from the pursuit of other goals that we have as a nation,"  added Carney.    "That includes ... the project of bringing about legislation that he can sign that comprehensively reforms our immigration system."

Recriminations among Republicans flew thick and fast, with moderates accusing House conservatives of trashing the party's reputation in pursuit of an impossible ambition to repeal or defund the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

Senator Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina, said this had  "been the best two weeks for the Democratic party in recent times".

"When we evaluate the last couple of weeks, it should be entitled the time of great lost opportunity.    If we had been focused on the rollout of Obamacare and its confusion, public support would have diminished.    Instead, our numbers have gone down, Obamacare has mysteriously gone up, and other than that, this has been great."

Graham was scathing about the influence of conservative advocacy groups such as Heritage Action, which torpedoed a deal on Tuesday when it threatened to withdraw support from Republicans who backed it.    He also warned of the damage that the party had inflicted on itself:   "The way we are behaving and the path we have taken the last couple of weeks leads to a marginal party in the eyes of the American people,"  he said.

Ted Cruz, the first-term Republican senator from Texas who had led the rebellion against Obamacare with a marathon 21-hour speech last month, was unrepentant but said he would not stand in the way of the Senate vote even though he opposes the deal.

Underscoring the fault lines in the Republican party, he blamed fellow senators for failing to go along with his strategy.

"Unfortunately the Senate chose not to follow the House and in particular we saw real division among Senate Republicans.    Had Senate Republicans united and supported House Republicans the outcome of this would have been very, very different,"  Cruz said.

Shortly before the Senate vote, Cruz took to the floor to urge his colleagues to vote against it.    "This is a terrible deal,"  he said.   "It embodies everything about the Washington establishment that frustrates the American people."

It was the worst of all possible outcomes for Republicans.    None of their stated goals were achieved, and polls showed that voters overwhelmingly blamed them for the crisis.    By refusing to blink, Democrats pushed Republicans to show that they would not let the US default on its debts, making it hard for the GOP to repeat its tactic.

Charles Boustany, a Louisiana Republican Charles Boustany, said the Tea Party-backed members of the House of Representatives had put the GOP's position at risk.    "This could trigger a wave of discontent that could wash out our Republican majority in the House if we're not careful – it's getting to that level,"  Boustany told the National Journal.

However, conservatives were equally robust in return.    Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, admitted his side had emerged with  "a goose egg".    "We got nothing,"  he said.

Asked if his party had been damaged in any way over the last two weeks, he replied:   "No, I don't think so.    I think we'll find out in 2014, at the ballot box."

Write-In Jeff Price, Write-In Jeff Price

Write-In  Jeff Price

Ben Cline is running unopposed.   Write-In  Jeff Price so that Cline has some opposition.   If Ben Cline got any less interested in representing the people of our area they would have to rename him Ben ReCline.   Do this one thing,      Write-In  Jeff Price  and send a message that we expect more from those who pretend to represent us than the little Ben Cline gives.

Why You Should, and How You Can, Vote against Delegate Ben Cline

Ben Cline is running unopposed this year, but he does not really represent us.      He has raised $37,100 this year, of which only 14% or $5,350 was from his district (Rockbridge, Lexington, and Amherst).     Most of his money comes from outside of the district, including almost $15,000 from Richmond and $6,500 from Henrico County.     The generosity of his donors allowed Ben’s campaign to give $1,028 to the Jackson for Lt. Governor Campaign.

We need to remind Ben that his constituents are more than his outside money interests and the Tea Party voters he caters to.

We can do that with a meaningful write-in vote. We have a candidate, Jeff Price who has agreed to allow us to write in his name.

Jeff is an intelligent and highly motivated young man from Amherst County who ran as a Democrat against Ben in 2009.    Jeff is a family man with a wife and two children who runs a small family business.     These personal commitments make it impossible for him to mount a campaign this year,  but he would be honored to have our write-in vote and to serve if elected.
Make no mistake, winning on a write-in ballot is very difficult.    However, the voters in the 24th District can send a message to Ben that, like the people in the Tea Party, we also vote.

But for our message to be heard we need to attract a significant number of voters across the District.    By using a single name we can demonstrate that we are organized and may be a threat to Ben’s future political ambitions.

Here are some other things you can do.

If you have a Facebook page get out the word NOW that voters should Write-In  Jeff Price for Delegate on November 5th ( or on their absentee ballot)

If you belong to a group or club tell the members about the Write-In  Jeff Price  campaign, and why you are writing in Jeff Price for Delegate.   Encourage them to do the same.

Write letters to the Editor telling briefly why you won’t vote for Ben Cline and that you will Write-In  Jeff Price  for Delegate.    Encourage others to write Letters to the Editor.

When you talk to friends tell them about the campaign and urge them to exercise their right to vote and  Write-In  Jeff Price  for Delegate.

If you lead an organization that has a little extra money in its budget consider a newspaper advertisement supporting the  Write-In  Jeff Price  campaign.

If you have other ideas for getting out the word, let me know what they are and I will share them with others.

Finally let   Alix Ingber  know if you will support this effort.    Remember:  a vibrant democracy requires competitive elections. This is an opportunity to put a little competition in the race for delegate.    Write-In  Jeff Price

Republicans Shut Down the Government

and now they are giving speeches telling us how outraged they are that government is closed.    How Obama should never have let it
happen.   Republicans have more than a few loose screws but the people are seeing this one clearly.

A new poll finds that only 5% of voters approve of the job Congress is doing.    The margin of error in the poll is 5% so basically only members of Congress themselves and their families can stand the dysfunctional institution.

If we had a Parliamentary system like Britain, this vote of no confidence would result in the Prime Minister calling a new election.

Too bad our Constitution does not allow recall of Congress.    It is too bad only Congress can bring articles of impeachment against
itself.     This is a glaring conflict of interest.

One reason for this vote of no confidence in Congress is that Republicans shut down the government, then the go on camera and
express fake outrage that the government is closed.    What exactly do they think  “shutdown”  means?    What did they think would happen if they closed the government?

It seems like Republicans thought that they would close the government and Obama would defy the law and keep the government open and functioning without Congressional authority. Perhaps they were hoping he would do just that and they would have grounds for Impeachment which is what they really want.

President Obama called their bluff and did what the Executive branch is required to do—enforce the will of Congress.

Now Republicans in Congress have nothing left but to feign outrage every day when word leaks out how one segment after another of
our nation is seriously hurt by the government shutdown.

Republican members of Congress show up at national parks and monuments and demand Obama violate federal law and open them up.     They hold new conferences blasting Obama because there is no money to pay the death benefits to the families of soldiers who gave their lives for their country.   Yet they pay themselves.

The Constitution gives Congress control of the purse strings. Congress must pass a budget, and if signed into law by the president, the Executive Branch must spend the money Congress allocates. If the president vetoes the Budget, Congress can over ride the veto.

It is nothing short of a bold face lie for Republicans to blame President Obama for the shut down.     Congress knew the day it took the oath of office in January that the fiscal year ended September 30th.     Congress has had 9 full months to pass a budget.

Both Houses passed budget, but Republicans repeatedly blocked efforts to go to Conference Committee to work out the differences.    They did not want the differences worked out.    They wanted a shut down.    They are giddy that they succeeded.

Republicans never expected that Democrats and President Obama would accept their low budget number and they could use a dispute over the deficit as a justification of the shutdown. When Democrats compromised, Republicans had to find another reason.    They pulled out their only policy issue—repealing Obamacare.    The demanded that unless Obamacare wad de-funded, they would shut down the government.

When that did not work, they made other demands to hold the government hostage all the wile blaming President Obama.

Constituents should ask Republicans when Congress passed a budget bill Obama vetoed.     When they can’t, it should become very clear who is at fault.     The media keeps Americans confused by blaming both sides.    Both sides are not equally to blame in this charade.

Congressional Republicans are acting so outrageously that even the Koch Brothers are distancing themselves from them.    That is not a typo—the same Koch Brothers that put up the money behind the Tea Party.     Heritage Action had abandoned them as well.

Democrats control the Senate and the Senate passed a clean budget.    The Republican House has not.    They have passed 40 phony bills to open only 40 agencies out of tens of thousands in the federal government.     Each time they feign outrage because the agency they want to open is closed.

Now these same Republicans want to play this same political game over paying the nation’s bills—bills run up, not by Obama like they
all say in interviews, but by Congress itself.     I repeat, only Congress can spend money.    The President can’t.

It is really too bad that our founding fathers never envisioned something like this when they adopted a Constitution that lets
political terrorists to bring down the government from the Halls of Congress with no recourse to the voters until the next election.

By then, it may be too late.

Cruz, Cuccinelli and the Family Foundation

Cruz Endorses Cuccinelli, Calls Him His Brother In Shutdown

Ted Cruz, the Canadian who shut down the United States of America's government.

In an effort to maybe have a chance of getting elected, Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli ran out of a conservative fundraising gala early last night so that he could avoid being photographed with Sen. Ted Cruz.

Cuccinelli and Cruz signed on to headline the Family Foundation gala, literally titled,  “Senator Ted Cruz – This American Moment,” before Cruz went off the rails wasting everyone's time with a fake filibuster and helping to shut down the government.

Gotta keep an eye out for Cruz, can't afford to be seen with him, someone might snap a photo.

Cruz and Cuccinelli met back stage away from the eyes of the voters and press and Cuccinelli urged Cruz to stand tough and don't give an inch till you break Obama's back.    Cuccinnelli is already on record supporting the government shutdown and has a record of being willing to shut down Virginia's government to get what he and the tea party want.

Ken Cuccinelli was the first AG in the nation to sue over Obama Care and went to the Supreme Court to try and overturn it.   Ken has his own agenda and has acted on it without regard for the wants and needs of Virginia's voters.   Cuccinelli and Cruz affectionately call each other "brothers of the shutdown."

I'll give these conservatives the old preacher pose and verbege, they'll eat it up.

During his 54 minute speech Cruz referred to "his friend"  Cuccinelli, calling him "smart, principled, and fearless."    Cruz also used his speech to engage the crowd in self-delusion, arguing that Republicans can  "win the messaging fight over the shutdown if the people just speak out loudly enough."     Cruz said he knew Cuccinelli would stand strong and not bend until the great victory of defeating Obama.

The crowd inside the main ballroom was 99 percent white and old, devoid of the 30-and-younger set, a typical republican gathering.

All this publicity ought to help my book sales and grease my path to a Fox TV Spot.    Mike Huckabee tells me it pays much better than politics.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz told a socially conservative advocacy group Saturday that President Barack Obama's Democratic administration is  "the most hostile to religious liberty"  in American history and uses the health reform law as its most formidable weapon against them.    The United States can never enjoy true freedom until the Health Care Bill and Obama are destroyed.   Thankfully you and your next Governor, Ken Cuccinelli stand shoulder to shoulder with me in this quest, Cruz said.

Cruz, the Senate leader of an effort by congressional Republicans to condition funding for federal government to stripping the health law of funding, sought to shift blame for the resulting government shutdown to Democrats as polls show Americans hold the GOP more to blame for it than Democrats.   Virginia has a lot of federal workers, military projects and contractors and they are all going without a paycheck while Ted Cruz and Ken Cuccinelli shut the government down and seek to make it permanently smaller.

"I am sorry to say that this administration is the most hostile to religious liberties that this country has ever seen," Cruz said as
several hundred right wing Christian conservatives roared their approval.   "We see the federal government mandate that people across this country violate their religious faith and provide for those whose faith prohibits it contraceptives or abortion drugs."   So we
must shut the government down until these people agree to do things our way.   The right wing crowd, though mostly old and white, seemed to be energized by Cruz's words and literally danced and shouted with glee.

This shutdown is good news for Ken Cuccinelli,  Cruz said.    It will make the voters forget about all the scandals Bob and Ken got caught up in.     Old Bob for Jobs was a bit more light fingered than anybody guessed he would be and Ken couldn't help but get his share.

Cruz and fellow Republican Ken Cuccinelli, who is running for Virginia governor, headlined a Saturday night fundraiser for several
hundred people who support the nonprofit Family Foundation, the state's best-known lobby for socially conservative legislation.   In
the old days a woman's education ended when she was 13 years of age.   The puritan fathers feared that a woman's brain was fragil and might malfunction if allowed to be educated beyond 13.   Anyway at 13 it was time to become a gentlemen's wife and start to bear him children.    During this period women were not allowed to own land or property.   If her husband died the home and possesions became
the property of the state and she needed to find another husband to survive.   Ken Cuccinnelli, Ted Cruz, Bob McDonnell and all the
members of the Family Foundation seek to return to these wonderful days of old.   Ultra conservative is another word for regressive and many informed sources consider this extreme form of conservatism to be a mental disease.

Most of the senator's 54-minute address was aimed at the Senate's Democratic leadership, whom he accused of obstructing at least four bills that would have restored funding to select areas of government that have been suspended, including veterans services and the National Institutes of Health.   Cruz promised not to relent until the Democratic Senate and President Obama were no more, telling the cheering crowd that what ever pain came with the goal it would be worth it.

At this point, polls show more Americans blame Republicans for the shutdown than Obama and other Democrats.   Cruz assured the crowd that the polls were wrong and that more accurate polling would show most Americans supported his ideology.   The crowd seemed to accept Cruz's conclusion without question and applauded loudly.

Donald Trump is so busy defending his fake university he hasn't had time to comment on Cruz's birth certificate.    Cruz has dual citizenship and plans to visit Canada for medical procedures after he kills Obama Care here.     So that's the plan, Canada for the free medical and then back to the US for the Freedom.

"Four times the U.S. House of Representatives has acted to fully fund the government, and yet prevent the very real harm that
Obamacare is causing to millions of Americans,"   Cruz said.   "Obama Care is more dangerous than a child not having food or federal employees being sent home and losing their paychecks.   Obama Care is worse than veterans not being allowed to visit a cematery, kids staying home because the funds for head start have dried up.   Obama Care will destroy the fabric of this nation and I won't stand for it.   I will oppose Obama Care as long as blood flows in my veins.   This is a fight we must win, Cruz said."   The crowd was now whipped to a frenzy like sharks feeding on fresh kill.

Last month, Cruz staged a 21-hour, 19-minute filibuster on the Senate floor in support of de-funding the health overhaul, reading a Dr. Suess children's fable during part of his overnight marathon.   A highlight CD or VHS tape of Ted Cruz on the Senate floor is
available at TedCruz.Com for a $50 contribution.    Personally autographed and Blue Ray are slightly more.     For a $250 donation Ted will write you a short note calling you by your first name just like you were close friends and if you respond now while the government is still shut down he will photo shop you into a photo with him and sign it especially for you.    It is just the thing for a conservative to show to his conservative friends.

He also paid tribute to Cuccinelli, saying  "he is smart, he is principled and he is fearless, and he will never back down."
Cuccinelli has supported shutting the government down over the state budget and sworn he would never back up, he would shut Virginia down.

I'm gonna have to pull a dirty trick at the last minute to win this race, at least I don't have to do anything I'm unfamiliar with.

But Cuccinelli, spoke for just seven minutes.   Already his previous words have come back to haunt him and as soon as Cuccinelli
denies making a statement or supporting an issue up pops a video tape clearly showing that Cuccinelli is being dishonest.   It is hard
to deny saying something when you are on video tape saying it.

Cuccinelli also railed against the health overhaul law and blasted the Democratic White House and his Democratic opponent, Terry McAuliffe, for supporting environmental regulations that he says amount to a war on coal.    The issues are two major fault lines between the adversaries in America's only competitive gubernatorial race.

"The war on coal in Virginia is a war on our poor,"  Cuccinelli said, referring to new Environmental Protection Agency regulations that
would impose strict carbon-emission limits on new coal- or gas-fired electrical power plants.    Note that the Environmental Protection Agency is shuttered during the goverment shutdown.

McAuliffe last week spoke out for the first time in support for the new regulations that Cuccinelli and the GOP contend will curtail coal mining in mountainous southwestern Virginia.    Cuccinelli said "he would like to keep on burning coal till black flecks fall from the sky like snow in winter."   He also said "he would like to remove any and all regulations that obstruct businesses ability to milk the last drops of profit from Virginia's coal mining operations."

Born Canadian, Elected to Senate, Became Speaker of the House, Wrote Book and Took Job with Fox.

"Many of you have heard me say that states have a role to play defending that constitution.    When the federal government oversteps its boundaries, we are the last line of defense,"  said Cuccinelli,  who received two standing ovations.

Cuccinelli was the first state attorney general in the nation to sue the federal government alleging the health care overhaul violated
the U.S. Constitution.     Cuccinelli lost that one but Charles and David Koch told him to keep on fighting anyway.   What does it
really mean when the Supreme Court says something is good to go?   What does it mean when an election is fought over an issue and the voters overwhelmingly support President Obama?     Cuccinelli then told the Family Foundation that he would never back up, never back down, thanked the audience and left the stage to a standing ovation as he exited the building via a side entrance.

McAuliffe supports the health care overhaul and has pledged to expand Medicare eligibility to about 400,000 Virginia working poor if elected, saying the state would forfeit $21 billion in federal support over seven years without it.    Cuccinelli said he wasn't
worried about Virginia losing money or the poor as he had his hands full supporting the coal companies.

Ted Cruz and the Little Girl

Ted Cruz was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when he turned to her and said, My name's Ted, 'Let's talk.    I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.'

The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to  Ted, 'What would you like to talk about?'

'Oh, I don't know,' said Cruz. 'How about nuclear power?'   and he smiles.

OK, ' she said.    'That could be an interesting topic.    But let me ask you a question first.     A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass.     Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass.
Why do you suppose that is?'

Ted, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence ... thinks about it and says,    'Hmmm, I have no idea.'

The little girl says,  Ted 'Do you really feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know  SHIT?
