Congrats to Ned and Lynn Kable who arranged and held the meet and greet at their home.

As I pulled into their drive I knew a special day awaited.    A rooster was crowing as I exited the truck and I walked past a swing suspended from a hundred year old tree.    A tree so big and strong that the recent storms had hardly disturbed its leaves.   The black labs stowed in the back fenced yard barked and wagged their tails as if to shout,     Hey get me out of here and lets play.     Throw a stick for me to chase.

The large rooms of Ned and Lynn's downstairs living and dining rooms were a-buzz with slightly less than fifty Amherst County Democrats eager to meet the Candidate for the 6th district Congressional seat.   

Andy Schmookler obliged and chatted and shook hand everywhere with everybody.   As I recall there were no babies to kiss but if there were Andy would have risen to the task. 

Andy and April have a grown family that includes four children and both have thrown their entire energies into this campaign with a desire to give back for all the goodness they have enjoyed and received from life.

Ned Kable welcomed the crowd of Dems to his home and introduced Andy and April.   A crowd of Dems in Amherst County is called a throng.

Andy Schmookler gave a fifteen minute talk that touched on many areas of interest to the throng.   He then took questions and comments from the floor allowing the throng to decide when they had had enough.   Andy joked that he enjoyed the back and forth and was willing to go until he passed out.  

Dave Burford, Chairman of the Amherst County Democrats appeared in the doorway with a huge washtub of ice and bottled water which he passed around the room and the questions and comments continued.   It appeared that there was excitement that Goodlatte has a challenger.

Bob Goodlatte, who has ignored Amherst County for years and years seems to have been rattled by Andy Schmookler's entrance in the campaign.   Bob has a newly created route of stops to meet the voters in the county.   Goodlatte refuses to appear with or debate Schmookler.

The turnout was terrific and the table of goodies set by Lynn Kable defies description.   One could imagine they were at a buffet due to the numerous selections to tempt taste and diet.   The beverage selections ranged from diet sodas to refreshing wines and I was lucky enough to successfully un-cork one bottle with a marvelous corkscrew that used the lip of the bottle as a leverage point.

Many Thanks to Ned and Lynn for a memorable time.   Now lets get to work and send Andy Schmookler to Washington as our Congressman.   I for one, am ready to give TRUTH a chance for a change.

July 24 and July 28 - The Virginia Victory 2012 campaign is kicking off its weekly canvassing and phone banking events to reach potential voters for Governor Tim Kaine and Democrats running for election.  Phone banking is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 24th, from 5:30 - 8:30 pm at the Lynchburg Democratic Headquarters.  The kick off date for canvassing is Saturday, July 28th.   The day will be split into two shifts.   The first shift is from 10 am - 1 pm followed by a second shift from 1 - 4pm.   These will be weekly events so if you're unable to attend July 24th or July 28th, there will be ample opportunities to volunteer on any number of future Tuesdays and Saturdays.  Will you join us on Tuesday, the 24th and/or Saturday, the 28th?     To confirm or if you have any questions, please contact Sara Beth Helsel, Virginia Victory 2012 field organizer, at 540-817-8835 or sbhelsel@vavictory12.org

Shady Mitt Hiding in the Shadows

Mitt's story rings off key.   He sways and weaves and is a little shaky walking a straight path.   Mitt takes a situation and wants to play it three or four different ways.   Mitt gets flustered when anyone notices the stories don't match up, how dare anyone
question my integrity, I'm Mitt Romney!!!


Mitt is the Owner, biggest stockholder, CEO and Prersident of Bain #6.   He draws a salary for this function (over $100.000 a year) and signs off on reports and government documents as the head of the company.   If any jobs were created by Bain holdings during this period of time he claims credit as a job creator.   When jobs are outsourced to China and other low wage no benefit countries Mitt claims that he has no involvement with Bain.   Mitt says he left years eariler and has nothing to do with the company and bears no responsibility for the companies actions.  

 Mitt refuses to release his tax returns.   He has gotten an extension on filing last years tax forms and that extension will take him past the date of the election.   Mitt says vote for me now, find out about me later.   When thinking of Mitt one's head is filled with off shore accounts in the Caymans, Swiss Bank Accounts, lower than 15% tax rates and all the other breaks the rich get in life that we only get a look at thru the smoke and mirrors of special privilege.

 Mitt was all over Television the other day whining for an apology because people are talking about his elusive campaign.   There will be NO Apology, RELEASE YOUR TAX RETURNS and level with the voters.

Mitt wants to repeal Obama Care.     Look at what Obama Care does.

President Obama in Virginia, Fired Up, Ready to Go

Multiple Thousands of supporters greeted the president at Green Run High School in Virginia Beach,  Phoebus High in Hampton,  and, for his last stop of the day, the Historic Fire Station No. 1 in Roanoke.

Virginians across the state have been lining up for a chance to get tickets to see President Obama on his five-stop campaign tour in Virginia this week. Supporters, sporting umbrellas and water bottles to cope with the summer heat, have been waiting in lines—some with as many as 2,000 folks—for the opportunity.

It’s about showing your support for the guy who’s been an amazing leader on the economy, health care, and women’s rights. He has the backs of middle-class families, and the progress I see is evidence that he’s taking us in the right direction. We’ve got to pick up those phones and knock on those doors to make sure he wins in November.    Whatever it takes.

Virginia gave 52.6 percent of her vote to President Barack Obama in 2008, the first time you went Democratic since the 1960s.     It is now time to vote and  give the President a second term

The president was traveling with Virginia Senator Mark Warner, the state’s most popular Democratic official, and Tim Kaine, a former governor and chairman of the Democratic National Committee who endorsed Obama early in his 2008 bid for the White House. Kaine is challenging Republican George Allen for a Senate seat, with polls showing them running even.

President Obama remembers his youth growing up and going on vacation.     “When I was 11 years old, my grandmother, my mother, my sister and me, we traveled the country — but we didn’t go on jets. We took Greyhound and the train, and I think twice we rented a car.  And we’d stay at Howard Johnsons.  And if there was a pool somewhere, no matter — it could look like a puddle it could be so small — I was so excited.  And you’d go to the ice machine and the vending machine — I was 11 years old; that was a big deal filling up that bucket of ice and getting that soda.”

Obama made a stop at Rick’s Cafe in Virginia Beach, a modest restaurant with a Cajun menu in a suburban mall.    He met with Jennifer Farlin, a mother of two who owns an interior design firm — and whose family has seen about $4,100 in tax cuts over the president’s first term,  the White House noted.

President Obama touted tax relief for the middle class and his health-care law and more, and painted his Republican rival as someone ready to undo it all.     Romney and the republicans want to do away with all benefits for the middle class, social security- medicare- women's healthcare- The American Health Care Act also known as OBAMA CARES.     In addition to all those take away's republicans want to raise taxes on the muddle class and poor.     The only winners with the republicans are the wealthy and big business.

“All these things that I’m talking about, it all goes back to that first campaign I ran,,” Obama told the Virginians today.    “It all goes back to my family and your family, and this basic idea of how we make sure that the middle class is strong and growing in this country — how do we make sure that folks who aren’t quite there yet, if they work hard enough, can get into that sense of security and take care of their families.”

The president closed with an appeal to “finish what we started in 2008.”

 Supporters stuck it out through a rainstorm to hear President Obama speak in Glen Allen, Virginia.    As the President continued on to Clifton, a few audience members reacted to what they heard:

    "When I compare Mitt Romney to President Obama, there is a stark contrast. It's so clear that President Obama has he backs of middle-class Americans. My family and so many other families in Glen Allen are seeing the benefits from things like the Affordable Care Act and middle class tax cuts."

Politically vulnerable Democrats across the country may be shying away from President Barack Obama.     But not Virginia Senate candidate Tim Kaine.

Former Gov. Kaine on Friday got to play sidekick and opening act for Obama as the commander in chief made a three-stop campaign swing in his home state.

Kaine touted the president's economic record, praised his re-election campaign and generally fired up the crowd in his introductory speech for the president at Obama's first rally Friday, in Virginia Beach.

Kaine is waging one of the most-watched Senate campaigns in the country in the race to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Jim Webb. Political strategists say the race, occurring in a crucial swing state, is the down-ballot contest that will be most closely tied to the presidential race.

In many competitive states across the country, politically vulnerable Democrats are skipping attendance at this summer's Democratic National Convention, where Obama will receive the party's nomination.    Others, such as North Carolina Reps. Larry Kissell and Mike McIntyre, have refused to endorse the president, and others are using advertising to directly distance themselves from Obama.     But Kaine's decision to tour with Obama Friday makes clear his willingness to align himself with the president despite his low poll numbers in many competitive states.

A poll released Wednesday from Public Policy Polling  suggests that there's method behind Kaine's decision-making.   "He may receive coattails from Barack Obama, who's faring quite well in the state at this point,"  PPP president Dean Debnam said in his analysis.
That poll showed the Senate race to currently be a tossup, with Kaine receiving 46 percent to 44 percent for Allen.    The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.

The president on Friday had Kaine as well as Democratic Sen. Mark Warner fly with him on Air Force One to their first stop in Virginia Beach, where both introduced the president. 

Mitt Romney spent a full day whining about his hurt feelings and asking for an apology from President Obama.    Mitt even wants special treatment in a political contest.     Mitt is a wussy living in a protected world with too many special deals and no empathy for normal people.   


GLEN ALLEN, Va. — Apparently, there will be no apology.

President Barack Obama’s response to rival Mitt Romney’s repeated requests for those two little words was clear on Saturday.   As the president campaigned across Virginia, Obama kept up the attacks on Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital, accusing the Republican of investing in companies that “pioneered” the practice of shipping jobs overseas.

“I don’t want a pioneer in outsourcing.    I want some in-sourcing,”  Obama said as he stood, soaked, in a downpour at an outdoor rally in Glen Allen, a suburb of Richmond.    “I want to bring companies back.”
 
Obama promised to shorten his remarks to the 900  supporters standing the rain.

“Ladies, I do apologize for your hairdos getting messed up,”  he joked.    ”We’re going to have to treat everybody to a little salon visit after this.”
 
As the president spoke, his campaign released an emphatic television ad that claimed Romney’s companies “shipped jobs to Mexico and China”;    that as governor he outsourced state jobs to India;   and that he had millions of dollars in a Swiss bank account and tax shelters in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

The ad is set to music:   Romney’s halting rendition of   “America the Beautiful”   from a January campaign stop in Florida.

“Mitt Romney is not the solution.   He’s the problem,”   the ad says.

The spot is Obama’s third ad currently hitting the outsourcing issue.    The new one was airing in states that are targets for both candidates.

The onslaught demonstrates the Obama campaign’s confidence in the damage it could do to Romney by hammering at his role at Bain Capital, the venture capital company he co-founded.

Romney has argued that he isn’t responsible for the outsourcing and bankruptcies at Bain investments after 1999, when he says he stopped managing the day-to-day operations, but the Obama team has seized fresh evidence that Romney retained at least a titular role after that date.

Obama’s deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter suggested Romney may have committed a felony in misreporting his role to federal regulators.     Romney called the charge out of line and demanded an apology, but the fight has for several days pushed Romney off his economic message.    (The former Massachusetts governor spent Saturday at his New Hampshire lake house.)    Romney is fond of taking weekends off.     Too bad the Presidency is a 24 hour a day 7 day a week full time job.

Obama’s stop in Richmond and a later rally in the northern Virginia suburb of Clifton wrapped up a two-day swing through a state crucial to his chances of winning in November.     Obama won Virginia in 2008, the first Democratic presidential candidate to do so since 1964.     Most polls show him with a slim lead, but the president will likely need a strong turnout in the fast-growing Washington, D.C., suburbs, the city of Richmond, and black pockets of the state, as well as among independent voters in the suburbs.

Obama’s trip was aimed at the latter group.    He spent Friday in the Tidewater area, reaching out to military families and talking up his push to extend lower income tax rates for households earning less than $250,000.    He stuck to that script again Saturday.

“I believe in middle-out economics, a bottom-up economics. I believe that when hardworking Americans are doing well, everybody does well,”   he told a group of more than 2,000 people at Centreville High School in Clifton.

Goodlatte Misleads on ObamaCare (Affordable Care Act)

Everyone calls it Obama Care and that is OK even though the real name is The Affordable Care Act.   

It is the first step in years toward looking out for the healthcare for all Americans.     Finally our Great country catches up to the rest of the civilized world in regard to our citizens healthcare.     The republicans could have crafted and passed something along these lines if they had wanted to.     They have enjoyed complete control of both houses and the White House a few times but all they ever want to do is tax breaks for the wealthy. 

Republicans have opposed social security since it was created over 75 years ago and have never stopped trying to kill the program.    If the republicans opposed things in a truthful manner the parties could get together and write good law.    Two honest parties working on solutions to problems would do great things.

Notice how republicans play the game.     They don't address the issues.     They wait for the Democrats to create a fix for the problem and then they attack it.     Why have the Republicans, over all the years and terms in office,  not taken up the health care issue?     Republicans represent big business and are in favor of the insurance companies controlling everything.     We pay twice as much as any other country for our health care and are ranked number 20 in the world.

Truth is the last thing on a republican's mind.    They make it up as they go and tell one lie after another.    Republicans have roadblocked everything President Obama has tried to do for the last three and one half years.    I do not have the capacity to understand how the republican mind works.      Telling the same lies over and over does not make them true.     It shows the simplicity of those who believe those lies.    Republicans are so far out of the mainstream today that it is possible they will just fade away.

Mitt Romney is the least qualified candidate to be put up as a major party candidate in my lifetime.     When the election is over lots of republicans will openly voice their dissatisfaction with the nominee.

Republicans have been systematically lied to by the political leaders they have supported.   Bob Goodlatte is one of those leaders who bends, spins and completely disregards the truth.     Bob has done nothing for the district for the past 20 years.    Bob even promised to retire after 10 years, so much for telling the truth.     Bob is closely allied with the tea party and that sick vein of thought.     Bob votes against seniors on all of their issues.     This election you have a choice.

Goodlatte Misleads on ObamaCare (Affordable Care Act)

Bob Goodlatte sent a grossly misleading email to Sixth District voters following the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

With leaders – or misleaders – like Goodlatte telling lie after lie about “Obamacare,” it’s no wonder that half the American people tell pollsters they’re confused about that important piece of legislation.　 The deception from Bob Goodlatte and his Republican buddies started with phrases like “death panels” and “government takeover” of  health care, and this fear-mongering dishonesty continues.
 
No wonder so many people tell pollsters they’re against this health care reform law, yet if told what’s in it, they say they strongly favor most of those measures.     The demonization of “ObamaCare” has worked.

How about the truth, for a change?

No, ObamaCare does not add to the national debt.　 It pays for itself, according to numerous experts.　 Indeed, the well-respected nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office – whose job is to tell the American people how much laws and spending will cost them -　has said that over its first decade, the Affordable Care Act will　reduce the deficit not raise it.

No, ObamaCare is not a job-killer.　That’s something Goodlatte and his Republican buddies have made up, shamelessly, while they’ve systematically blocked every effort in Congress to put Americans back to work.

No, this law does not make “massive cuts to Medicare,” as Goodlatte claims, trying to scare people who depend upon Medicare.     In reality, the law slows the growth in Medicare spending by encouraging greater efficiency and eliminating waste and fraud in the program, taking nothing from the people who rely on it.     The law actually　enhances Medicare, closing the donut hole and adding new preventive benefits.　　You’d never know that from Goodlatte’s scare-tactics and misinformation.

It’s blatant hypocrisy for Bob Goodlatte to lecture us about protecting Medicare and reducing the deficit when he has twice voted for the Ryan budget, which would gut Medicare in order to fund yet another big tax cut for the wealthiest Americans while ensuring huge deficits for decades to come.

Instead of accepting the Supreme Court’s decision and moving on, Goodlatte promises to fight to repeal the only health care reform measure Congress has been able to enact for generations – even though we Americans pay twice as much for our medical care as the citizens of any other advanced country and get a health care system that doesn’t even rank in the top twenty.
 
It’s an imperfect law, but one that we need our legislators to improve and build upon, not demonize it for partisan advantage.

Goodlatte concedes that we have to bring our health care costs under control.    When Goodlatte claims he has an approach that could help, his constituents should ask him:　 “So, why have you and your party done nothing about this for the past twenty years –nothing but obstruct– while you’ve been collecting your salary as our representative, as well as receiving federal health care benefits that are denied to many of us?”
 
Perhaps we should also ask Bob Goodlatte who exactly he’s representing up there on Capitol Hill.　 It surely isn’t the citizens, families, farmers, workers, and small-business owners of the Sixth District, who are burdened by rising health care costs and increasing insecurity about getting proper medical care.

Maybe Bob Goodlatte’s latest message is good politics since the Republican lie machine has convinced so many people that they will be hurt, and not helped, by the Affordable Care Act.

But we need members of Congress who are about more than “good politics.”　 We need them to look out for their citizens, and not peddle fear-mongering lies to trick people into voting against their own self-interest.
 
We need leaders dedicated to telling people the truth, for a change. I’m promising to do just that, and I keep my promises.
