Downtown Lynchburg Clebration

When it comes to roping off Main and throwing a street celebration Lynchburg doesn't have to take a back seat to anybody.      It was the third year for the Get! Downtown Celebration and if there were ever any kinks they have all been worked out.     The Planners, The Lynchburg Police, The Exibitors and all the Merchants came together to deliver a perfect and enjoyable evening.

Buster Brown

I won't pretend that I captured every moment of the adventure but I do believe I can deliver to you the spirit.     Buster Brown was there.     Actually Buster lives close, he is the Mascot at the Craddock Terry Hotel.     Buster is quite well behaved and did the sniff greeting with all the pets who passed his station.     For a relaxing stay or a delightful meal visit Buster and the Staff at the Cradock Terry.

I hadn't seen my friend David E. Mass since an event we attended for Bert Dodson at the Stoney Badger a few days earlier.      It shouldn't have surprised me to run up on David since he is one of the Young Legal Lions of Lynchburg and has offices in the Allied Arts Building just one street up from Main where the celebration was going on.     We were celebrating, so to speak, in his back yard.

The street was full of children with bright rainbows and other decorations on their faces and I was able to track this down to its source.

A Clown that had mastered the art of making animals and hats out of balloons.     Look at the helmet on the young man below and ask yourself if you could make it if you had the balloons already inflated and 30 minutes.     The clown did it in a couple of minutes and all the while joking and talking to the crowd.

A Voice for the Worker

I had a short off the record conversation with a leader of the GOP in Lynchburg and to my surprise there is a movement to Elect Bert Dodson within Republican ranks.     I asked why?      The answer made sense.     The Appomattox, Amherst, Lynchburg areas of the 22nd want to be represented by someone who knows the issues, problems and needs of the area.      They don't trust the man from Louisa to look out for their needs.      They don't plan to make a big show of it.      They'll just use their secret ballot vote to back up their judgement.
