Write-In Jeff Price
Ben Cline is running unopposed. Write-In Jeff Price so that Cline has some opposition. If Ben Cline got any less interested in representing the people of our area they would have to rename him Ben ReCline. Do this one thing, Write-In Jeff Price and send a message that we expect more from those who pretend to represent us than the little Ben Cline gives.
Why You Should, and How You Can, Vote against Delegate Ben Cline
Posted by Alix Ingber, on October 10th, 2013, 9:35 am
Ben Cline is running unopposed this year, but he does not really represent us. He has raised $37,100 this year, of which only 14% or $5,350 was from his district (Rockbridge, Lexington, and Amherst). Most of his money comes from outside of the district, including almost $15,000 from Richmond and $6,500 from Henrico County. The generosity of his donors allowed Ben’s campaign to give $1,028 to the Jackson for Lt. Governor Campaign.

We need to remind Ben that his constituents are more than his outside money interests and the Tea Party voters he caters to.
We can do that with a meaningful write-in vote. We have a candidate, Jeff Price who has agreed to allow us to write in his name.
Jeff is an intelligent and highly motivated young man from Amherst County who ran as a Democrat against Ben in 2009. Jeff is a family man with a wife and two children who runs a small family business. These personal commitments make it impossible for him to mount a campaign this year, but he would be honored to have our write-in vote and to serve if elected.
Make no mistake, winning on a write-in ballot is very difficult. However, the voters in the 24th District can send a message to Ben that, like the people in the Tea Party, we also vote.
But for our message to be heard we need to attract a significant number of voters across the District. By using a single name we can demonstrate that we are organized and may be a threat to Ben’s future political ambitions.
Here are some other things you can do.
If you have a Facebook page get out the word NOW that voters should Write-In Jeff Price for Delegate on November 5th ( or on their absentee ballot)
If you belong to a group or club tell the members about the Write-In Jeff Price campaign, and why you are writing in Jeff Price for Delegate. Encourage them to do the same.
Write letters to the Editor telling briefly why you won’t vote for Ben Cline and that you will Write-In Jeff Price for Delegate. Encourage others to write Letters to the Editor.
When you talk to friends tell them about the campaign and urge them to exercise their right to vote and Write-In Jeff Price for Delegate.
If you lead an organization that has a little extra money in its budget consider a newspaper advertisement supporting the Write-In Jeff Price campaign.
If you have other ideas for getting out the word, let me know what they are and I will share them with others.
Finally let Alix Ingber know if you will support this effort. Remember: a vibrant democracy requires competitive elections. This is an opportunity to put a little competition in the race for delegate. Write-In Jeff Price

Republicans Shut Down the Government
and now they are giving speeches telling us how outraged they are that government is closed. How Obama should never have let it
happen. Republicans have more than a few loose screws but the people are seeing this one clearly.
A new poll finds that only 5% of voters approve of the job Congress is doing. The margin of error in the poll is 5% so basically only members of Congress themselves and their families can stand the dysfunctional institution.
If we had a Parliamentary system like Britain, this vote of no confidence would result in the Prime Minister calling a new election.
Too bad our Constitution does not allow recall of Congress. It is too bad only Congress can bring articles of impeachment against
itself. This is a glaring conflict of interest.
One reason for this vote of no confidence in Congress is that Republicans shut down the government, then the go on camera and
express fake outrage that the government is closed. What exactly do they think “shutdown” means? What did they think would happen if they closed the government?
It seems like Republicans thought that they would close the government and Obama would defy the law and keep the government open and functioning without Congressional authority. Perhaps they were hoping he would do just that and they would have grounds for Impeachment which is what they really want.
President Obama called their bluff and did what the Executive branch is required to do—enforce the will of Congress.
Now Republicans in Congress have nothing left but to feign outrage every day when word leaks out how one segment after another of
our nation is seriously hurt by the government shutdown.
Republican members of Congress show up at national parks and monuments and demand Obama violate federal law and open them up. They hold new conferences blasting Obama because there is no money to pay the death benefits to the families of soldiers who gave their lives for their country. Yet they pay themselves.
The Constitution gives Congress control of the purse strings. Congress must pass a budget, and if signed into law by the president, the Executive Branch must spend the money Congress allocates. If the president vetoes the Budget, Congress can over ride the veto.
It is nothing short of a bold face lie for Republicans to blame President Obama for the shut down. Congress knew the day it took the oath of office in January that the fiscal year ended September 30th. Congress has had 9 full months to pass a budget.
Both Houses passed budget, but Republicans repeatedly blocked efforts to go to Conference Committee to work out the differences. They did not want the differences worked out. They wanted a shut down. They are giddy that they succeeded.
Republicans never expected that Democrats and President Obama would accept their low budget number and they could use a dispute over the deficit as a justification of the shutdown. When Democrats compromised, Republicans had to find another reason. They pulled out their only policy issue—repealing Obamacare. The demanded that unless Obamacare wad de-funded, they would shut down the government.
When that did not work, they made other demands to hold the government hostage all the wile blaming President Obama.
Constituents should ask Republicans when Congress passed a budget bill Obama vetoed. When they can’t, it should become very clear who is at fault. The media keeps Americans confused by blaming both sides. Both sides are not equally to blame in this charade.

Congressional Republicans are acting so outrageously that even the Koch Brothers are distancing themselves from them. That is not a typo—the same Koch Brothers that put up the money behind the Tea Party. Heritage Action had abandoned them as well.
Democrats control the Senate and the Senate passed a clean budget. The Republican House has not. They have passed 40 phony bills to open only 40 agencies out of tens of thousands in the federal government. Each time they feign outrage because the agency they want to open is closed.
Now these same Republicans want to play this same political game over paying the nation’s bills—bills run up, not by Obama like they
all say in interviews, but by Congress itself. I repeat, only Congress can spend money. The President can’t.
It is really too bad that our founding fathers never envisioned something like this when they adopted a Constitution that lets
political terrorists to bring down the government from the Halls of Congress with no recourse to the voters until the next election.
By then, it may be too late.
